Moondog & The London Saxophonic: 'Sax Pax for a Sax'
By Fred Goodman, Music Central Online

Wow! First Aretha and now Moondog - Atlantic Records really knows how to cherry-pick Columbia's roster ...

Actually, this is a welcome and witty record from one of the music world's greatest iconoclasts. Now an expatriate, Moondog was once best known for wandering the streets of New York dressed as a Viking and crafting experimental music that sometimes included the sound of foghorns on the Hudson. Here his primary instrument is the saxophone, recorded in a wide variety of configurations, and he manages to create music that is at once traditional, warm and adventurous. The music is deceptively simple and the four-star rating conservative - this one's probably going into the pantheon.
